On the Tenth Day of Christmas

We went in search of vegetables.  We have been craving some cooked vegetables.  (I suppose you've figured out we don't cook very much any more.)  I used to cook every single day.  Then after the girls grew up and left home, well, things changed.  We would go to work and have lunch where out then come back home in the evenings and we just didn't want a big meal.  So we stopped eating large dinners at home.  We would have our biggest meal at lunch and popcorn or something light for dinner.  Sometimes we'd just have cheese and crackers.

Since we've been on the road, I made a crockpot of vegetable soup which we ate on for a few days.  One day I actually cooked some vegetables.  That's been about all the cooking we've done other than open a can of soup.  Why aren't we going to this fresh food market next door and buying vegetables and cooking on our grill?  Can't answer that because I don't know.  We get out and during our running around, we stop somewhere to eat before returning home.  That's why!

So we stopped at this little restaurant in Ft. Myers (just up the road) called something Family Restaurant.  So we thought it would be a meat and three kind of place.  You could get meat, all right, but their only sides was a salad of bowl of soup.  Meatloaf and soup or salad?  What????

Yesterday, we found a place about 5 miles farther up the road called Farmers Market Restaurant.  Oh my gosh!  I bet those people thought we were two homeless people who hadn't eaten in weeks.  Why?  Because that's what we acted like!  We had a meat and three vegetables and some of the best cornbread ever.  We even took desert home--sweet potato pie!  Yum Yum!  Now we know where to go.  It's off the beaten path but that's how we find most things.

This Farmers Market Restaurant has been in business 60 years.  They only cook the veggies and fruits that are in season here in Florida.  They never buy stuff from the store or from other states.  If it's not in season here, they don't cook it.  We were in veggie heaven.

We will return.  I had chicken livers, mashed potatoes, collard greens and northern beans.
Mike had meatloaf, kale slaw, fried green tomatoes and okra and tomatoes.  We were stuffed.
Next time I'm only getting 3 veggies and that will be enough!  The service was awesome too.
