We left the house at 6:30 AM. It rained the entire time we were travelling. We were in Helena, Alabama, registered at the Cherokee campsite, and set up by 2:00 PM. We made great time. We even stopped a few times to stretch our legs. Now . . .
What we learned: NEVER, EVER, EVER drive pulling an RV in the rain. Rain came up from the road into our garage area and in the living room area under the slide out. So when we finally stopped and opened the slide, the carpet was damp. We have everything cleaned up and under control now. The road (I-65) through Birmingham, Alabama was so rough, we just knew our glider recliners would be upstairs in the bedroom by the time we stopped. But they were fine. As a matter of fact, everything in the cabinets and refrigerator was fine. Nothing shifted or fell out. YAY! I guess we've learned how to store our belongings for the road pretty good.
We asked the guy at the camp office where would be a good place for dinner. He immediately said Golden Rule Barbecue which was right down the street. So that's what we did. The food was wonderful. I had some pulled barbecue, coleslaw and potato salad. Mike had smoked turkey, lima beans, and fried green tomatoes. Their menu was huge. They gave us way too much. The service was outstanding. We definitely recommend it to anyone and will go back if we get the chance.
Of course, the temperature is kind of chilly tonight and we had to turn on some heat. But we kept the temperature about 68 and it felt great all night.
